Good afternoon, Mighty Oak families! Both of our 8th grade basketball teams will be in the city championship game tomorrow, February 3rd, at Hiram Johnson High School. Come cheer on our 8th grade girls team when they play Cal at 1:00 pm and our 8th grade boys team when they play Cal at 2:15 pm.

We are one week into the 2nd semester. Please give friendly reminders to students to stay focused on school work and use the resources they have if they need help (see below). Parents, remember that Infinite Campus is available for you to check grades and students should be using the planners we provided in order to stay organized.

CSUS In Person Math Tutoring: We are starting in person math tutoring after school with CSUS students on Monday, February 5th. In person math tutoring will be available M-F for one hour immediately after school. There will be 1-3 tutors available per day to help. See link for the flyer.

Study Hall: Study Hall is offered Monday-Thursday. Mornings in room 215 from 7:35-8:05 and afternoons in room 112 (near the cafeteria) from 2:35-3:35 (M/T/W) and 1:35-2:35 (Thursdays).

Math Tutoring in the Evening: If your child needs help in the evenings while working on math homework, have them check out this FREE tutoring! They offer one-on-one tutoring via Zoom Monday – Friday from 4pm to 7pm. Here’s a link to access a tutor on Zoom.

Math Peer Tutoring: Come by Math Peer Tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch in room 218.

Spring Sports: If your child is considering trying out for any sports, they must complete and return all 3 forms (see below) to our main office or you can email them to Natasha-Brown@scusd.edu. All forms must be submitted before your child will be allowed to tryout.

Girls Soccer Tryouts:

Tryouts from 3:00-4:00 pm
Monday (2/5): 7th graders only
Tuesday (2/6): 8th graders
Wednesday (2/7): 7th and 8th graders
Thursday (2/8): To Be Determined
Tuesday/Thursday (2/13 and 2/15): If needed

Girls should have both cleats and tennis shoes for tryouts, shin guards, and water. Each girl should have a plain white t-shirt and will be expected to write their (assigned) tryout number on the front and back. The list is posted in the Girl’s locker room.

Boys Soccer: We are finalizing the hiring of a 7th grade boy’s soccer coach!! We will announce tryout information once we have it.

8th grade boys soccer typically starts in late February. The 8th grade coach is still coaching High School soccer and that season ends in late February. Information about future soccer meetings and tryout information will be in future announcements.

Golf Tryouts will be Wednesday, February 7th and Thursday, February 8th after school. Kids will meet in front of the boy’s locker room and walk over to McKinley Park for their tryout.

Valentine’s Dance and Dress up Day: Our Valentine’s Dance is on Wednesday, February 14th from 2:35-4:35 pm in the cafeteria. Be sure to come to school dressed head to toe in red, pink and white!! Tickets will be sold during lunch outside of room 111 for $7, starting this Wednesday, February 7th.

Valentine’s Day Grams: Valentine’s Grams are on sale! Students can send a gram to their friends to brighten their day. Grams will be on sale in room 111 during lunch this week starting at $1.

PTSO Fundraiser: Acheson Wine Company will donate a percentage of sales back to a Miwok Middle School the entire month of February! Mention Miwok Middle when purchasing wine for consumption in house or purchase of bottles of wine to go. It’s the perfect gift for loved ones during the month Valentine’s Day. Open Enrollment: For those of you who have (or know other) current 6th graders that would like to attend Miwok MS next year and live within our district boundaries (but Miwok MS is not their neighborhood school), the SCUSD Open Enrollment application opens Monday, February 5 at 8:00 a.m. and will run through Friday, February 23, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for students to apply for enrollment to a different school than their neighborhood school for the 2024-2025 school year, based on space availability.

Important note: If your student is currently enrolled in SCUSD, you must also submit the Mid-Year Annual Update through your Infinite Campus Parent Portal by February 23, 2024 for your application to be eligible for the Open Enrollment lottery. View directions on how to complete an Annual Update form to verify your address and contact information.
