Good afternoon, Mighty Oak families! In exciting news, Miwok Middle School (listed as Sutter Middle School) was awarded the California Distinguished School Award for 2024. Schools were selected by analyzing data reported through the 2023 Dashboard, with a focus on demonstrating excellence and growth in academic achievement and ensuring a positive school climate. Schools are recognized for exceptional student performance based on achieving exemplary performance in English Language Arts (ELA) and math, and reducing suspensions. Bandtastic: We invite you to attend our 2024 “Bandtastic” Concert on Thursday, March 14th at 6:30pm in the Miwok MS Gym. This EXCITING concert is FREE and will feature our AMAZING Miwok MS Beginning and Advanced Bands, as well as, the Beginning & Advanced Bands from Crocker-Riverside Elementary School and the Band from West Campus High School. Limited parking will be available in the back of the school through the J Street entrance.

Mighty Oaks Madness: If you are a college basketball fan like me, you know that March Madness is the BEST!! On March 11th, we will officially start our PTSO fundraiser, MIGHTY OAKS MADNESS! This will be your opportunity to support end of the year activities, extracurricular activities, and teacher funds. The more money we raise, the more no homework nights, and crazy teacher stunts we will earn, so get ready to DO WORK Mighty Oaks! Spring Picture Day: Spring Picture Day is Monday, March 18th. All students will be photographed during their PE class. 7th graders will take Spring pictures and 8th graders will take Promotion pictures. Viewing and ordering will be one week AFTER picture day. You will receive a notification via email and text.

Yearbooks: Yearbooks are still for sale! Purchase your yearbook for $45 before they run out. Purchase online at Miwok MS Yearbook Purchase or pay cash to Ms. Payne in main office.

CAASPP: Friendly reminder that all students must have a working Chromebook in order to access CAASPP testing. If your child has a Chromebook that isn’t working, please make sure they notify the office this month (outside of class time).

8th Grade Discovery Kingdom Field Trip: The 8th grade Six Flags Discovery Kingdom trip will be on Tuesday, June 11th. The cost of the trip is $95 per student or $58 w/season pass. Your ticket includes park admission, transportation, and one meal deal package (1 meal voucher, 1 snack voucher and 1 drink voucher). Field trip packets will be available in the main office and our website or you can click this link to print and submit. Submit both permission slips and payments (cash or money order only) to Ms. Payne in the main office no later than Friday, May 3rd. Parents if you are interested in being a chaperone please email Ms. Payne at Michele-payne@scusd.edu.

Reminder- Clean Campus: Please help to remind your children that we ALL need to clean up after ourselves. We have been shorthanded with custodial staff, and I am constantly picking up trash around campus. Nobody wants to attend a school with trash on the ground, please help reinforce that your children should pick up after themselves and throw their trash away immediately after eating. This is our collective responsibility to have a clean campus to come to each day.

Congratulations Band: Congrats to the following Miwok MS musicians who participated in the 2024 CMEA Solo & Ensemble Festival and were recognized for their performances: Sidney Manricks (piano solo) was awarded a “Superior” ranking for his performance! The following students performed a mixed Wind Quintet and were also awarded a “Superior” ranking for their performance: Giuliana Balestreri, Clarinet, Hannah Harper, Euphonium, Chase Cogdill, Flute, Bari Eizenberg, Tenor Saxophone, Chloe Chiuu, Flute.
