Good afternoon, Mighty Oak families!

Mighty Oaks Madness: If you are an NCAA basketball fan like me, you know that March Madness is one of the best times of the year!! I’m so excited to start filling out my brackets soon! Here at Miwok Middle, we have our PTSO fundraiser, MIGHTY OAKS MADNESS! This will be your opportunity to support end of the year activities, extracurricular activities, and teacher funds. Mural: If you pass by our school over Spring Break, you’ll see a mural being created on the back of our school facing J Street. There will be a mural unveiling and community celebration on Saturday, March 30th from 10 am-12 pm to honor the IMPACTT Native Youth Leaders (Indigenous Mentors Protecting Ancestral Cultural Teachings Team) for their hard work in creating the mural in collaboration with Hope Through Art, Sacramento City Unified School District, and Native Dads Network to mark the name change to Miwok Middle School.Here is a link to the flyer.

Spring Picture Day: Spring Picture Day is Monday, March 18th. All students will be photographed during their PE class. 7th graders will take Spring pictures and 8th graders will take Promotion pictures. Viewing and ordering will be one week AFTER picture day. You will receive a notification via email and text.

Yearbooks: Yearbooks are still for sale! Purchase your yearbook for $45 before they run out. Purchase online at Miwok MS Yearbook Purchase or pay cash to Ms. Payne in main office.

CAASPP: Friendly reminder that all students must have a working Chromebook in order to access CAASPP testing that starts on April 26th. If your child has a Chromebook that isn’t working, please make sure they notify the office this month (outside of class time). Below are the parent notification letters: English, Spanish, Russian, Chinese

8th Grade Discovery Kingdom Field Trip: The 8th grade Six Flags Discovery Kingdom trip will be on Tuesday, June 11th. The cost of the trip is $95 per student or $58 w/season pass. Your ticket includes park admission, transportation, and one meal deal package (1 meal voucher, 1 snack voucher and 1 drink voucher). Field trip packets will be available in the main office and our website or you can click this link to print and submit. Submit both permission slips and payments (cash or money order only) to Ms. Payne in the main office no later than Friday, May 3rd. School Site Council: There is a School Site Council meeting on Wednesday, March 20th at 2:45. Link to agenda.

Congratulations: Congratulations to our students who competed in last week’s Speech tournament. We had multiple students win in several categories. Out of the 101 competitors, please congratulate for the Impromptu Speech category: 6th place Natalie Northrop, 5th place Olivia Pareja, and 3rd place Keira Wallace. In the Humorous Interpretation Speech category: 3rd place Keira Wallace. In the Original Prose/Poetry Speech category: 2nd place Beza Getahun. With very tough competition, overall Miwok placed 3rd as a school for total wins and percentage of wins.
