In order for Sutter students to be successful, it is important to attend school every day unless they are ill. Research indicates that successful students attend school regularly.
All absences and tardies must be verified by the parent/guardian by calling the attendance office at 395-5371 anytime day or night, e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org or bringing in a note including the absence date(s), reason for absence and a parent/guardian signature. When children return to school, they should report to the Attendance Office for a re-admit slip. After an absence, it is the returning student’s responsibility to obtain and complete the make-up work.
Sutter’s attendance team makes daily phone calls home regarding attendance, however, it is recommended that the parent/guardian be proactive in initiating communication to verify attendance. Letters will be sent home if an attendance problem is identified per Education Code 48260. Continued absences will lead to further action.
You will be considered tardy to class if you are not in the classroom by the time the bell rings. If you are late or absent from school, you must report to the attendance office to get a re-admit.
Repeated tardiness in the classroom reduces the amount of time for teaching and learning, is disruptive to the school environment, is disrespectful to other students who are ready for the classroom lesson, and reveals a lack of responsibility on the part of the tardy student. Repeated tardiness will result in disciplinary action.
Truancy, unverified or unexcused absences, and tardiness adversely affect students’ education and increase the chances for failure. Education Code Section 48261: Any pupil who has been reported as a truant and who is again absent from school without a valid excuse one or more days, or tardy on one or more days, shall be reported as a truant.
